UTICO emerges as the lowest Bidder for the DUBAI MUNICIPALITY tender for BIOGAS TO ENERGY PROJECT at Awir Sewage Treatment Plant

UTICO emerges as the lowest Bidder among 4 bidders in the mega Dubai Municipality tender on Biogas to Energy Project at Awir Sewage Treatment Works. It is a turnkey investment BOOT project with a long term (25 years) Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 6MW Power Plant which will generate electricity from waste biogas. The electricity generated with be fed to the DEWA grid. Although the minimum gas offtake is 30,000 m3/d, current gas generation reaches over 50,000 m3/d and will further increase with additional sewage treatment capacity. The plant will be designed on a modular basis so that it can be upgraded to generate proportionally more power.

Utico have quoted a rate of 19.5 fils /KWH to the Municipality, which is one of the most economical power price for such an application anywhere in the world. The L2 bidder, Veolia could only offer a rate of 24 fils/KWH. The other 2 bidders were higher. The bid is presently under technical evaluation.

Utico supports Dubai Municipality in adhering to Dubai Government’s policy of sustainable solutions. This project helps to mitigate the deleterious effects of Climate Change by using the Methane gas currently being flared to the atmosphere and instead producing power at a much lower carbon footprint and more economically than conventional power production from such sources. The project will include the latest H2S abatement technology to render the biogas amenable for efficient use.

Utico have specific experience with various gas engines such as Caterpillar, Waukesha, Wartsila and GE Jenbacher engines, and can also adapt to any other make to offer great benefits to Dubai Municipality.

It is Utico’s mission to cover the entire spectrum of power generation utilizing both non-renewable as well as renewable green technologies. Future IPP projects in the planning stage include a 22 MW Natural Gas based plant, 40 MW Solar based plant and a 300 MW Coal based plant with Clean Carbon Capture.
